A memorial is erected on this German gun emplacement / bunker. Tiny black specks can be seen on the beach; the specks are people and provide some perspective of the commanding view and position of dominance the German occupation force had established on this French coast.
In the foreground the series of concrete walls are visible which hid the bunker entrance from being seen down on the beach and protected the occupants from Allied shelling. Not visible in the photograph but off to the right is a bomb crater which seemingly had no detrimental impact on the bunker system around and beneath it.
